When is the best time to visit Cornwall?

If you’re wondering when is the best time to visit Cornwall, I think there are three months that stand out: April, May, and September– and here’s why:

Spring in Cornwall – April & May

Spring is a magical time to visit Cornwall. The days grow longer, wildflowers bloom across the coastline, and the county awakens after winter. Attractions reopen, and the atmosphere is lively but without the peak summer crowds. The weather is generally mild, though rain showers are always a possibility—I’m not going to lie, you’ll still need a raincoat! …..and If you need a full list of things to do when it rains, read this!

April and May also bring some of Cornwall’s most iconic events (see below for a summary). It’s perfect for the food lovers – with the popular Porthleven Food Festival (May 2-4, 2025), St Ives Food and Drink Festival on the beach (May 16–18, 2025), and even Falmouth Food Festival towards the end of May (23-26 May 2025)

Porthleven Food Festival

Music lovers won’t want to miss The Great Estate Festival (May 30–June 1, 2025) at Scorrier House, featuring Supergrass as the headliner. Meanwhile, Rattler Fest (April 25-26, 2025) at Healeys Cyder Farm promises a lively weekend of music and cider.

Why September is Cornwall’s Hidden Gem

By September, the summer rush has eased, but the weather remains warm, and the sea is at its most inviting. It’s the ideal time for coastal walks, golden sunsets, and quieter beaches. The Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival (Sept 12–14, 2025) is a fantastic weekend of live music and cider tasting, while the St Ives September Festival (Sept 13–27, 2025) offers two weeks of arts, music, and cultural events throughout the town.
